Your consultancy website is not a brochure: what buyers need to see before they book a call

Buyers of professional services decide whether to call you before they ever speak to you. Here is what a consultancy website needs so that decision goes your way.

Consultants, advisers and B2B service firms often sell expensive, high-trust work. Before a buyer agrees to a first call, they look you up. They read your website, often on a phone between meetings, and decide in a few minutes whether you are worth their time.

Many consultancy websites are written like brochures: a welcome message, a list of services, a page about the history of the firm. They exist, but they do not help the buyer make that decision.

The three questions every buyer has

  • Do you understand my problem? The buyer is looking for their own situation described in words they recognise.
  • Have you solved it before? They want examples from a similar sector or a similar size of business.
  • Who would I work with? They want to see the people, not a stock photo of a handshake.

A website that answers these three questions clearly does most of the selling before the first meeting.

Service pages that name the problem

Give each service its own page, and start each page with the problem it solves, in the client’s language. Explain what the outcome looks like, how an engagement usually runs and what the client needs to provide. Specific pages also rank far better on Google than one long list of services.

Proof without breaking confidentiality

Many firms cannot name their clients. You can still show your experience: describe the sector, the size of the organisation, the challenge and what changed, without naming anyone. Short, structured examples are easier to scan than long case studies.

Insights that show how you think

A few genuinely useful articles, written by the people who do the work, show your expertise better than any claim on the home page. They also bring in visitors searching for answers to the exact questions your clients ask.

Make the first step easy

End every page with a clear next step: a short brief form, a link to book a call, or a WhatsApp button. Ask only what you need to prepare. The easier the first step, the more good conversations you start.

The first call should be the start of the work, not the moment you explain who you are.

A simple structure that works

  • Home: who you help, what you solve and the next step.
  • Service pages: one per service, problem first.
  • Experience: short examples by sector.
  • Insights: articles that answer real client questions.
  • Team: the people a client will meet.
  • Contact: a short brief form and a call option.
