Recruitment agency websites: stop losing candidates between the job ad and the apply button
Many good candidates find your roles and never apply. Usually the reason is the website: slow job search, long forms and a journey that was never designed for a phone.
A recruitment website has two audiences with very different needs. Candidates want to find a role and apply before they lose interest. Hiring managers want to know you understand their market before they send a brief. Most agency websites serve neither as well as they could.
Where candidates drop off
- Slow or clumsy job search. Filters reset, results load slowly, and searching on a phone is frustrating.
- Long application forms. Asking for everything up front, on a small screen, loses candidates at the first step.
- Lost context. The candidate picks a role, then lands on a general form that has forgotten which job they chose.
- No confirmation. Nothing tells the candidate their application arrived or what happens next.
Job search built for a phone
Most candidates browse jobs on a phone. Put search on the first screen, keep filters for role, location and job type simple, and make sure they stay set as people move between results and job pages.
Quick apply that keeps the role
Let candidates apply with the essentials: name, contact details and a CV upload from their phone. The role they chose should travel with the application. You can always ask for more detail later, once you know the candidate is a fit.
Appear in Google for Jobs
Google shows job listings directly in search results when job pages use the right structured data (JobPosting). That means a job title, location, employment type, a date posted and an expiry date on every vacancy. Expired roles should be removed or marked as closed so your listings stay trustworthy.
A page that wins briefs from employers
The client side deserves its own journey: your specialism, the sectors you recruit for, how your process works and a short brief form. Hiring managers should not have to scroll past job ads to find out whether you can help them.
Every extra step between a job ad and the apply button costs you candidates.
Connect the site to your ATS
When the website and your applicant tracking system talk to each other, jobs appear on the site automatically and applications arrive in the right place, without anyone copying details by hand. Confirm with your ATS provider what access is available before the build starts.
